Next Generation, Lightwaves Leisure Centre and North
Wakefield Community Group are organising the first ever Sainsbury’s
Sport Relief Mile for the Next Generation event in Wakefield. The Mile
will take place on July 15th at 12.00 noon @ Next Generation,
Lightwaves Leisure Centre. There will also be a Street Party for all
the family, with a host of entertainment and sporting activities.
A
procession of entertainers and local (sport) celebrities will be
leading the Walk a Mile through the Pinderfields/College Grove area.
The route is especially designed for this occasion.
John Allott,
Associate Director of Wakefield Wildcats says, “It is wonderful to do
something locally and raise money for Sport Relief 2006 at the same
time!”
This event is one of hundreds taking part around the
country on Sport Relief Saturday. Milers will be putting their best
foot forward at events across 15 major cities and many more locally
organised sites.
Sport Relief is an initiative of Comic Relief
in association with BBC Sport. The last Sport Relief Mile in 2004
attracted 81,000 Milers including Princes William and Harry. Once
again, everyone from teenagers in trendy trainers to families in fancy
dress are being urged to enter a place on the start line at
www.sportrelief.com. So get sponsored and help raise lots of cash for
vulnerable people leading tough lives here at home in the UK, and in
the poorest countries in the world.
The Sport Relief Red Sock
is central to the experience of everyone taking part in the day. Each
‘Miler’ will take part wearing one red sock, and at the finish line
they’ll be presented with a second to make a pair, and show the world
that they’ve socked it to poverty.
