As we come into the second week of the Easter holidays Next Generation at Lightwaves are hosting a bunch of fun activities for children aged 8 - 16.

This Saturday, we will be hosting the launch event for New Lightwaves. The event will take place from 1pm to 6pm and will feature displays from some of the groups of Lightwaves, as well as a DJ, a local band and plenty of free activities for the kids.

We are having a Kidz Club at Lightwaves on Thursday 27, Friday, 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 December from 1 till 3pm.

It's for boys and girls aged 8 to 15 (in 2 groups) and costs £2 per session.

On Tuesday 6 November, the Lightwaves Community Trust hosted a re-launch event for Lightwaves Leisure Centre. The event saw a large gathering of local residents, Lightwaves users, councillors and workers from a wide range of organisations. 

The centre was formally re-launched by Mo Loveland, a local resident and community activist.

The new management of Lightwaves are bringing in new, affordable prices that new and existing users will be able to benefit from.

From next Thursday, Lightwaves will be under the management of the Lightwaves Community Trust. The Trust is a partnership of Lightwaves users and local residents who want to see the centre stay open. The Lightwaves Community Trust aims to provide an excellent service in partnership with its users and plans to introduce more affordable prices to encourage new users to start using Lightwaves.

The next PACT meeting to discuss Police matters in Wakefield East ward is planned for Wednesday 26 September, 6pm at Lightwaves. It will be followed by a Community meeting for College Grove/Pinderfields at 7pm. It's the summer holidays and Next Generation will be hosting a number of activities as part of its holiday programme. You will be able to take part in a number of activities from football at Stanley Royd field to walks in the countryside.  We will be making regular updates as information of the next week's plans becomes available.

On Wednesday 4th July, a Police Matters (PACT) meeting for residents of the East Ward will be held at Lightwaves from 6.00pm to 6.45pm.

A community meeting for the College Grove/Pinderfields community will follow the Police Matters meeting, at 7.00pm.

Next Generation is taking part in a new council scheme that rewards us and our community for recycling more. The more our area recycles, the more the council will put into a fund of up to £1500.

This money will go to Next Generation to create recycling facilities at Lightwaves Leisure Centre.

Lightwaves and Nxt Gen are organising a Queen's Jubilee Gala on Monday 4 June from 11am until 3pm. With old-fashioned stalls & games, like egg and spoon races, hook a duck, a coconut shy, apple bobbing and a lucky dip. Along with  music, refreshments and a picnic area. The activities will be inside at Lightwaves and outside on Lower York street and play area. Free entry, stalls cost 10 pence.
