Tuesday, 28 April 2009 |
Nxt Gen's Easter Holidays went really well with plenty to do! We had a bike ride did some cooking with the boys yeah that's right with the boys, although I think they just came to eat. The lads got involved with making leek and potato soup and fajitas. The girls also had fun with an Easter egg hunt and picnic at Stanley Royd. The highlight of the holiday's was seeing the boys and girls getting on and having fun at Flamingoland. The two great weeks was top off by a clean up on the green aka Pindi Park and a good al' Nxt Gen BBQ.

The Anti-Gangs Event Keeping the Peace |
Tuesday, 17 March 2009 |
The Gang workshop went really well. The audience, specially the young people enjoyed it and had a wicked time! Shabraiz mentioned "The talk taught me about, if you do bad stuff you wont be rewarded in life". There was a great mix of young people from the wider community who had some interesting questions of their own. Kony asked "Do you enjoy your life now or your life before". The young people really took notice to what was being said. It was also positive and empowering that young people were able to ask questions with confidence.
I think the young people really got something good out of this!!

Nxt Gen Warriors put up a brave fight despite loss |
Monday, 02 March 2009 |
The Warriors started strong with Mehr Hussain making mazy runs. With good link up play with Arsalan 'Kaka' Khan both attackers were looking favourite to score. Thornes Juniors weathered the storm and took the lead. As Next gen were fired up by Captain Jalil 'Jay Lw' Akbar, the visitors hit back within 5 minutes with Manny Farooq slotting the ball home after a clever through ball by the energetic David Hardwick. As Next Gen were looking to take the lead Thornes scored again making it 2-1 to the home side. The game was end to end with some great attacking football. Nxt Gen's leading scorer Farooq once again found the ball at his feet and exploded down the right hand flank only to square the ball to Hardwick and unselfishly Hardwick's cheeky flick found Hussain. Mehr Hussain then unleashed a powerful shot which the keeper could not handle and found its way past the line. Nxt Gen conceded another goal before going into the break making 3-2.
